Harrowing/Heartwarming Parent Moment of the Week

The Harrowing/Heartwarming Parent Moment of the Week

The two big boys splashed water on the ceiling during their tub…again. I actually had to mop our ceiling. Yes, you read that right.

I was toting sweet boy #3 around in the backpack and I bent over to put ingredients into the bread machine. Several minutes later, sweet boy #3 hands me something. It is an apple sticker. I look back and see that he is happily munching an apple. He is such a tricky little guy. When I bent over it put him within range of our hanging basket of fruit,  he simply snagged himself a handy snack.

I asked sweet boy #2 what was happening in a certain scene of “An Easter Carol” he exclaimed in a loud voice: “God is roseing!”

Sweet boy #1 has watched his favorite movie “Our Solar System” many times. I have never tried to teach him any of the information in it but somehow he picks stuff up. This week I was horrified to discover that my 5.5 year old son is officially smarter than I am. In casual conversation he named all nine planets for me in order from the sun out! He also gave little lectures concerning the interesting features of each one. I can’t name all nine planets in order. So so humiliating.

The scariest moment this week was when sweet boy #3 knocked over a broken closet door and it landed on sweet boy #1 giving him a nasty scrape on his arm. The poor guy was screaming and then sweet boy #3 was screaming because he was afraid and then sweet boy #2 began screaming for no apparent reason. But they are all well now…and so far this morning, no one is screaming. But we have got to fix that door. It was another casualty of our energetic brood.

The winner this week…. I sent sweet boys #1 and #2 into the bathroom to pee. I heard laughter. Always a bad sign. I came in and sweet boy #1 gave me a detailed explanation. “Something silly happened. I accidentally squirted on ____(sweet boy #2’s) hands!” I grabbed some TP quickly to offer sweet boy #2 for tidying purposes but was quickly reassured. “He already wiped them off on the shower curtain.”

Oh phew, now all is well in the world. He wiped them on the shower curtain. Logic, little boy style. You’ve gotta love it.

So there you have it. Highlights from the Wilks home.

  • Oh scary moments… we are re-organizing a bit and had a bookcase (empty) sitting in the hallway. Cory tried to climb it and it fell over. I’m so glad it caught the edge of the wall (leaving a huge dent of course) rather than miss and land on him!!! It’s taller than Brian!
