Reading Tai-Bo

Reading Tai-Bo

This week I read Miss Julie Speaks Her Mind by Ann B. Ross and The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan. And what did I learn, that it is not what you write but how you write it. In Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind a proper widow lady answers her door to see a child standing there, the illegitimate son of her late husband come to stay with her while his mom goes to school to learn how to do nails. A good premise but it could easily have been badly done. But not by Ms. Ross. Miss Julia is awesome. Just the right blend of church lady horror, anger, snippiness, and compassion. I loved it. And of course Rick Riordan delivers a fast paced book with heroism and sacrifice and lots of monsters to fight. A good week for reading.

Fun book – read it last year – there are a couple of sequels, too. Miss Julia don’t take no gruff.
