This week I read Fablehaven by Brandon Mull and I was just blown away. He breaks a bunch of writing rules…and you don’t care at all because it totally works. I zipped through the book on the edge of my seat. There are some scary moments with a witch and a rampaging demon, so I might wait to read it to my younger boys for awhile. But I think my oldest is ready and I can’t wait to share it with them. When I read the part where the kids are trapped in the attic while the magical creatures rampage over midsummer I think I barely breathed during the whole scene. This book was just so very good. Well crafted prose, wonderful characters, a crazy unique plot. A wonderful getaway into a magical world. I loved it.
