God This Week

My youngest was really upset at school the other day. The principal noticed and was worried. When he saw me walk out onto the playground he ran and flung himself into my arms sobbing…and then refused to tell me why he was upset. He yelled at anyone who tried to comfort him and sat in my lap for the whole recess. I asked him what had been bothering him several times over the next few days. “I will never tell you, Momma!” He informed me. As a mom this makes you so nervous. Did something inappropriate happen? Is there a creepy person lurking around my children? Should I call 911? Finally, after 5 long days and spending the day together for dinner and a movie (our annual momma day) my little guy talked to me. They had served hot dogs at school that day. He doesn’t like hot dogs.

Momma–“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

Sweet Boy#3–“I didn’t know how easy it would be.”

Isn’t this how we are with God?

This is exactly what Jesus was talking about in that awesome chicken verse that I read to the boys last week.

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing.” Luke 13:34

Talking to God, listening to God, obeying our Father…sometimes it seems a lot harder than it actually is. Just like my little guy talking to me about those terrible hot dogs. Once he was able to finally tell me, it wasn’t so bad. Our Heavenly Father waits for us to. He longs to gather us close, but often, we are the ones who are not willing.

Thank you for sharing this story! It is so encouraging as I am raising kids and maybe be there one day soon with my on. Thank. 🙂 God is good!

  • Thanks Keebler. Lots of prayer, parenting requires a whole lot of prayer. But yeah, I was baffled. But the Lord walked with us and finally Sweet Boy#3 was able to talk.
