This week I am still attempting to take an old YA manuscript that I finished five years ago and fix the plotting issues and tidy up the prose. It is so hard to look at an old story with fresh eyes. I know how it goes and sure the thing is too big and confusing and more complex than it needs to be, but I’m used to seeing it like that. I’m trying to get down to the heart of the story and trim away everything else. I’ve taken out 8,000 words so far, which is terrifying by the way, and am having some clarity as to where this whole tale is going. But I must admit that I have taken out whole plot threads, spent a whole day putting them back in, and then gone back and taken the same stuff out once more. I’m about halfway through…I think.
