Writing News

I’ve finally gotten into the groove of writing. That steady consistent determination that a rough draft requires. I wrote chapters 2 and 3 and part of chapter four this week. My characters are beginning to show occasional glimpses of coolness and doing a few things I didn’t expect. Of course that means that I didn’t follow my beloved outline precisely and that I’ll have to go back to add vital info that was forgotten. But I’ll have to go back for a lot of things anyway. To gather all of the interesting character tidbits and emphasize them. To delete my characters dumb boring parts. To change most of my “then”s to “than”s. You know how it goes. But right now I’m starting to have just a wee bit of confidence that I’m actually going to finish this project. If I can write 2 chapters a week I’ll finish the rough draft by Christmas. But my heart’s desire is for a finished draft by October 31st. Hope Hope Hope.

Go Girl, Go! Seems to me like you’re making good progress.

I just had a thought. Most of our work is messed up in no time, eaten up in a jiffy or forgotten soon after it is accomplished. A book, on the other hand, is something that is available for a long time, touches many people’s lives and can continue to accomplish what God has in mind even after the author is gone. Hmmmm, it is the same way with our children. The hours of work and efforts of love that we invest into the raising of our children have a continuing affect for years and generations to come. After we’re gone, those efforts are still speaking and God is still using what the Spirit did through you to accomplish His purposes.

In the words of Cody so many years ago when he was a little boy, “That’s the most amazing thing!”.

    Love to you.
