This week I worked on the first revision of my romantic novella manuscript. I revised chapters 1-13 for pacing and to fill in all the crazy gaps I tend to leave. In my rough draft I’ll have my character do something and then boom do something else and then boom just appear five feet over to the left and then wham she does such-and-such but we have no idea how she even transported herself over to Norway. So I have to go through the whole thing and fill in the gaps and awkward spaces. I also have difficulties with motivation. Sometimes my characters just do stuff, for no reason whatsoever. So for this first revision, I fill in gaps and fix the flow and make sure that my characters actually have a reason to do the things they do. This added about 2,300 words to the story. I also sent the first half of the story to my Mom, Sarah, and Johnnie Sue who graciously said they would look it over for me. And finally this week I sent a couple of chapters of the Nineveh story to my crit partner Jenn and critiqued a few chapters for her.
