Reading Tai-Bo

What did I learn from my reading this week?

That it takes time for your reader to fall in love with your hero…so don’t mess it up. I’m on book 7 or an 8 book YA series. Slowly, slowly over the span of 6 books I as the reader learned to love the heroines romantic interest. Now in book 7 that guy has been tossed aside and another guy enters the picture. But I’m still in love with the first guy. As a writer I have to learn that my job is to make the reader and the heroine fall in love with my hero. That takes time. Just because my outline says that everyone is supposed to love so-and-so doesn’t mean that I have succeeded in making my readers fall for him. I need to go back over my story and see if I have the kind of scenes necessary to make my readers fall in love. We’ll see how this series ends, but at the moment I’m pretty disappointed.
